Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Corporal in Company H, 2d Minnesota Infantry for action on February 15, 1863 at Nolensville, Tennessee. His citation reads "Was one of a detachment of 16 men who heroically defended a wagon train against the attack of 125 cavalry, repulsed the attack, and saved the train."

Milton Hanna's headstone lists his year of death as 1912. His obituary appeared in the Mankato Review and gives his death date as January 21, 1913.
