Star City man found dead
STAR CITY,WEST VIRGINIA -- A Star City glassworker was found dead at his Normandy Street home at 3:45 p.m. yesterday by a member of his family. According to acting coroner William Bowers, the body of 25-year-old Daniel Ray Mayfield was taken to University Hospital for further examination to determine the cause of death. Bowers said that if the cause of death can't be determined by the examination, then an autopsy would have to be ordered. The cause of death could not be determined at the scene, he said. Bowers said he was called to act as coroner when neither of the two county coroners could be reached. That was part of the agreement when he gave up the post of coroner, Bowers said.

Daniel Ray Mayfield, 25, of 292 Normandy St., Star City, was dead on arrival at University Hospital Monday.
He was born April 1, 1946 in Morgantown, the son of the late Raymond Mayfield and Gladys Mayfield Riggleman, who survives. He was a member of the American Flint Glassworkers Union.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his stepfather N. E. Riggleman; his wife Helen Leach Mayfield; two sons, Daniel Ray Jr. and David Melvin, both at home, one daughter, Pamela Sue Mayfield, at home; three brothers, Kermit of Shinnston, Jerry of Wooster, Ohio and Earl Mayfield of Morgantown; two half-brothers, Eddie and Kevin Riggleman, both of Morgantown; one half-sister, Lisa Riggleman of Morgantown.
Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. till noon, when the body will be moved to the Norwood Apostolic Church. Viewing will be from 1-2 p.m., the time of service with the Rev. Marcus Goodin officiating.
Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
