His parents were both born in Philadelphia, PA.

He was one of 13 firefighters horrific fire at the Friedlander Leather Remnants factory. The loss of life remains the worst in Philadelphia Fire Department history to the present-day.

"EDELMAN - On December 21, 1910, Charles W., husband of Ada M. Edelman (nee Firth) and son of Elizabeth and the late Robert W. Edelman, aged 42 years. Relatives and friends, also members of Engine Company No. 6, Philadelphia Fire Department, Relief Association, Pension Fund and Insurance Patrol, Union Republican Club of the Eighteenth Ward, James G. Blaine Circle, No. 50 (?), B. of A. (H. F.) of Pennsylvania, are invited to attend the funeral services, on Tuesday, at 2 P. M., at his late residence, 1113 Earl Street. To proceed to Palmer Cemetery Vault. Interment private, at Oakland Cemetery."
