Robert Edward "Bob" Knapp, 80 died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home in Mead, Weld, Colorado after a lengthy illness

He was born the son of Frederick Dewey Knapp and Helen Barbara Haremza, in Spooner, Washburn, Wisconsin on January 24, 1932 and raised in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. He survived by his older brother Frederick Joseph Knapp (Penny Leka), East Hampton, NY. An older sister Lorraine Barbara Knapp (John Charles Hurd) died 5 Feb 1993.

Bob was a 1950 Graduate of Shell Lake High School. He played both basketball and football in his high school years. An active hunter and fisherman most of his life, he had a tremendous love of the outdoors and knew most birds by sight and song.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1954 with a BS Biological Sciences, he was enlisted in ROTC for four years, serving as 1st Lieutenant. Upon graduation he served two years active duty at Beale Air Force Base in California with the Army Corps of Engineers in Heavy Equipment Base. He was a brother of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, University of Wisconsin Madison, Wisconsin.

He worked for WPS (Wisconsin Physician Service) and for Manson Insurance Agency as a health insurance agent in Wausau, Wisconsin and sold real estate both in Wisconsin and in Colorado most of his career. Bob volunteered as a seasonal game warden in Mosinee, Wisconsin for several years. He was Broker/owner of Towne & Country Property Shoppe in Mead, Colorado.

Bob was the first President of Wausau Noon Optimist Club in 1960, and New Club Building Chairman of the State Chapter of Optimists. Was first President of the Algernon Schwinnburg Literary Society (A Poker Club) Through the years he served as church council member, Sunday school superintendant and Sunday school teacher. Bob served on the Planning Commission and Downtown Revitalization Committee for Mead, CO.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth A. Knapp, Mead, Colorado and their sons, Robert W. Knapp (Sarah E Burley) of Denver, Colorado and Stephen J. Knapp of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Grandchildren Jackson W. Knapp and Ronan J. Knapp of Denver, Colorado.

Survived also by Cynthia Rose Cauger (Donald McCutcheon) of Wausau, WI and their children, Diane E. Cauger of Wausau, WI, Thomas R. Knapp (Kristin Johnson) of Harrisonburg, VA, David J. Knapp (Vay Rong Tran) of Golden, CO. Grandchildren: Joseph J. Knapp of West Chester, PA, Elizabeth M. Burks of Salt Lake City, ID, Anna C. Burks (Brady Peck) of Boise, ID, William D. Burks of Missoula, MT, Arik J. Knapp (Megan Baker) of Juneau, AK, Emily R. Knapp of Harrisonburg, VA and Michael D. Knapp of Harrisonburg, VA, Quinlan Knapp Cauger of Golden, CO, Aiden Tran Cauger of Golden, CO, and one great-granddaughter, Claire Mika-Marie Knapp of Juneau, AK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two eldest children: daughter Linda Jean Knapp (23 Jan 2003) and son James Robert Knapp (15 Aug 1975).

His remains have been donated to the Colorado State Anatomical Board, University of Colorado School of Science & Medicine. Interment will be at a later date. A celebration of life for family and friends will be at Faith Community Lutheran Church on Friday, July 27th at 3:00 p.m. For more information please e-mail: [email protected]
