Denmark and Norway Monarch. The daughter of Landgraf Karl von Hessen-Kassel and Landgräfin Louise, she was born Princess of Denmark and Norway (youngest daughter of king Frederik V and queen Louise of Great Britain). In 1769 the Hessen-Kassel-family moved to schloss Gottorp in Schleswig, where the landgraf was promoted governor of the Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. In 1790 she married to Crown Prince Frederik, later King Frederik VI of Denmark and Norway. She gave birth to 8 children: 6 died in infancy. Princess Caroline married the hereditary prince Ferdinand of Denmark, and princess Wilhelmine firstly married prince Frederik of Denmark, later king Frederik VII, divorced him due to personal differencies, and remarried Duke Carl of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. After the last pregnancy, the queens health was so weakened, that she could not bear another child, Therefore the king was banned from her bedroom, and she had to accept, that he found womanly love elsewhere. He kept an official "maitresse", with whom he had 4 children. The queen was deeply loved by the people.
