Sculptor. Student of Melchior zur Strassen. He is best known for his statues of Bach, Goethe and Emperor Maximilian I. in Leipzig. He did many portraits of artists, scientists and members of the Saxon Royal family. He became one of the most important German sculptors. He was also involved in identifying the skull of J. S. Bach in 1894. He studied art in Leipzig and Berlin. He traveled Italy between 1886 and 1888. He did several statues for graves on the cemetery. The statue of the flower girl is his work and was erected after his daughters death.
