JOHN P. MILLER (d. 1959)

John P. Miller, 77, veteran Manitowoc barber, died at 5 a.m. Thursday at Holy
Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a short illness. He resided at 848 N. Sixth
St., Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral
Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. D. L.
Krembs will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born July 12, 1882, at Chilton, son of the late Adam and Mary Durbin
Miller. At the age of 13, he began to learn the barber trade while working for
an older brother. He came to Manitowoc and in 1903 formed a partnership with a
brother, Joseph, in the old Williams House. When the building was demolished
the brother established their shop at Eighth and Franklin streets. John had been
a barber for 63 years before illness caused him to retire.
He married Emelia Nyhagen Dec. 28, 1905, at Manitowoc. He was a member of Holy
Name Society of Sacred Heart Church and Master Barbers Assn.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Leonard of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas
Hughes of South Milwaukee; a brother Frank of Oconomowoc; five sisters, Mrs.
Tillie Robinson of Oconomowoc, Lucy of California, Mrs. Mary Mulhaney and Miss
Loraine Miller of Brillion and Mrs. Nick Schmid__ofer of Chilton; five grand-
children and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday where the Rosary will
be recited at 7:30 p.m.
