Catholic Pope. Son of an officer in the Thracesian troops, he was a peacemaker between the clergy and soldiers of Rome. Elderly and sickly, he died after reigning only one year and leaving many conflicts and issues for his successor to resolve. He did leave in his will a large bequest to the clergy and people of Rome.
