British religious figure. He was an Irish native who moved as a missionary follower of Saint Mungo in northern England on the border with present-day Scotland and more precisely in the diocese of the island of Lindisfarne. He served his apostolate mainly in the territories of old Lothian extending up to the Firth of Forth whose main centers were Edinburgh and Dunbar. Baldred was the founder of the Tyninghame monastery belonging to the ecclesiastical district of the monastery of Saint Balther. However, during the silent periods of his sermons, he used to retire to a hermitage located on the banks of Seacliff whose ruins are still visible. After his death, according to writings of the time in 757 AD, he was canonized and venerated as saint "coram populi."
