Bernard Preston Beckett, 86, of Parkersburg passed away July 24, 2008, after an extended illness.

He was born in Braxton County, W.Va., a son of the late Orpha and Stella Perkins Beckett. He was retired from Union Carbide and a member of the South Parkersburg Baptist Church. He was also a World War II veteran, where he served 3 1/2 years overseas.

He is survived by two daughters, Anita Beckett (Steven) Hunt of Winchester, Va., and Debbie Beckett (Roger) Minigh of Glenville, W.Va.; one son, Samuel Beckett (Barbara) of Parkersburg; two brothers, Coy Beckett of Cottageville, W.Va., and Eugene Beckett of Parkersburg; two sisters, Wilda Beckett Sheppard of Newark, W.Va., and Maxine Beckett Morgan of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn E. Beckett on May 14, 1999; one daughter, Carolyn Jean Beckett; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Lynn Hunt; and three sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, Parkersburg, with Pastor Frank Miller officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
