Lois Marie was my husband's maternal aunt.
She was born and reared on a farm in Perry, Ohio, with five brothers and four sisters. She was her parents' eldest daughter and second eldest of the ten siblings.
Lois graduated from the Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. Upon completion of her schooling she continued to work for CMGH for five years, serving two years as head nurse.
She was later employed as a registered nurse in the pediatric department and newborn nursery for St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain, as well as Amherst Hospital in Amherst, Ohio. She retired in 1980 from Elyria Memorial Hospital.
Lois loved nursing and being of service to others. She was honored in the "Who's Who In Nursing" 1990-1991 edition.
She was a member of the Christian Temple Disciples of Christ in Lorain, where she was active in the choir.
Lois was a lifelong member of CMGH Nursing Alumni Association, AARP, and Avon Lake Women's Chorus. In addition to nursing, her greatest joys were music and gardening.
She is survived by her son, David L. Kacur, of Avon, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jackie Spain and Michael Kacur, both of Orlando, Florida; sisters Vera "Bunnie" Johnson of Madison, Ohio; Neva (Jerry) Sims of Mentor, Ohio; Avelda "Dolly" Weber of Rossford, Ohio; Jessie Sabo of Perry, Ohio; brothers Vaughn "Dutch" (Marilyn) Johnson of Perry, Ohio; Ben (Sara) Johnson of Houston, Texas; and Charles (Nancy) Johnson of Perry, Ohio.
Also surviving Lois are numerous nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly and who loved her in return.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Kacur; her only daughter, Ellen Marie Kacur; two of her three sons, Michael Brian Kacur and Barton Winslow Kacur; her parents, Mark and Floy (nee Penhollow) Johnson; two brothers, Dale Johnson and Victor Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Chip Sabo and Stanley Weber; a sister-in-law, Sarah Johnson; and nephews Jeff Johnson and Rickey Sabo.
