Caroline Phoebe "Boo" Previdi, a bright-eyed and cheerful six-year-old, was a vibrant member of the Sandy Hook Elementary School community in Newtown, Connecticut. Born on September 7, 2006, she spent her entire life in the close-knit community of Sandy Hook. Her joyful presence, infectious smile, and caring nature left an indelible impact on the lives of those around her.

Caroline's love for art and dance was evident from a very young age. Her enthusiasm knew no bounds, and she fearlessly embraced new activities with exuberance, including swim team, Girl Scouts, gymnastics, and soccer. At home, she delighted in drawing and coloring, leaving behind special notes adorned with her artwork for her family to find. Caroline's parents often discovered these lovingly crafted surprises tucked away in the most unexpected places, showcasing her thoughtfulness and creativity.

However, it was not only her artistic and athletic abilities that defined Caroline but also her compassionate and giving spirit. One particular incident showcased her innate kindness and empathy at a tender age. While riding the school bus with her friend Logan, she noticed he felt anxious and scared. Instead of sitting with her usual group of friends, Caroline chose to sit next to Logan to comfort him, making sure he felt safe and secure during the ride. She engaged him in games of peek-a-boo and shared stories to distract him from his fears, demonstrating her remarkable ability to connect with others and make them feel cherished.

At just five years old, Caroline's selfless gesture extended beyond her immediate circle. Before Christmas, she emptied her piggy bank and brought all her money to their church, where she donated it to a fund that provided toys for less fortunate children. Her desire to ensure that every child had a present under the tree exemplified her caring nature and her wish to spread joy to others. Her parents and those around her were in awe of her big heart and the kindness she consistently displayed, even at such a young age.

Caroline's life was tragically cut short on December 14, 2012, when she became one of the innocent victims in the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The entire community of Newtown was devastated, and her loss was deeply felt by her parents, Jeffrey and Sandy Previdi, her brother, Walker, as well as her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.

In the face of such a heart-wrenching tragedy, the Previdi family found strength in their daughter's memory and sought to honor her legacy. They established the Caroline Previdi Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial support to children in Newtown and nearby communities, enabling them to participate in extracurricular activities they love. Caroline's passion for her own activities and her compassion for others inspired the foundation's mission, which aims to spread joy and opportunity among children in need.

Through events like the annual Caroline Previdi Swim-A-Thon and other fundraising initiatives, the foundation has awarded numerous scholarships to children who may not have had the chance to participate in activities they loved without this support. Caroline's giving spirit lives on through the smiles and joy her foundation brings to children's lives each year.

In addition to the foundation, the Where Angels Play foundation also honored Caroline's memory by creating a playground at Masone Beach in Island Park, a community affected by both Hurricane Sandy and the Sandy Hook tragedy. Each year, the community comes together to decorate a Christmas tree in her honor at the playground, adorned in pink, her favorite color, shining with solar lights to keep her memory aglow.

Though her time on this Earth was tragically cut short, Caroline's legacy continues to touch the lives of countless children, bringing hope, joy, and the opportunity to pursue their passions. Her spirit of compassion, enthusiasm, and love lives on, forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her and those who continue to benefit from the foundation's work. The world is a brighter place because of the joy and kindness she shared, and her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.
