Sheboygan Falls High School, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, 1967, that's when Doug graduated. I was two years behind in the class of 1969. It wasn't a huge school, so everyone knew each other no matter what grade you were in. Doug was one of those people who always said hi and greeted you with a smile in the halls between classes. I was surprised when I learned he'd gone to Vietnam because he was so mild mannered, but in those days there were no choices, you just did what you were told. All these years later, I'm still shocked that he died over there. Doug is buried not far from the graves of my Dad and my little girl who died of leukemia. When I'm at the cemetery tending to the graves of my father and my daughter, I always stop by Doug's grave...and remember his smile.

I have assigned myself the honorable task of keeping Doug's grave clean and decorated. Rest in peace, dear friend.
