My Great-Grandmother was born Mahala J. McGary; she went by the name of Jana. Her mother was Keziah McCalister-James and her father was Robert McCalister. Jana married John Franklin Williams on August 6, 1885 in Brownwood, Texas. He was the son of Andrew Williams and Martha James-Williams. Jana and John had 5 children:

John Edward Williams b.June 6, 1886 d.April 17, 1966

Jesse Archibald Williams b.Oct. 6, 1887 d.Aug. 20, 1968

Bessie Williams-Chatwell b.March 4,1892 d.Oct 19, 1970

Rosie Magdelene Williams-Freeman b.Jan.2,1894 d.May 31, 1991

Earl Frank Williams, (my Grandfather) b.Jan. 18, 1901 d.July 28, 1982

Jana's occupation shows to be that of a missionary in the 1930 Census. She reported that our ancestors fought at Goliad and the Alamo, helped to write the Declaration of Texas Independence. Her father was a confederate soldier. Her uncles were rangers on the front fighting the Indians.

Her father's cousin was the mother of Chief Quanah Parker, Cynthia Ann Parker.

She was a true Texas pioneer.
