Katherine is the daughter of Nicholas Steffen and Katherine Kries. She came over from Germany when she was a little girl and settled in the St. Kilian area. Her father died soon after she came into this country.
She married Conrad Simon and together they had 13 children. She lived to see 4 of her children get married, and see several of her grandchildren be born and go through childhood.
She was a patient, kind and industrious woman. Even when she was elderly and she went blind, she would still darn socks and do what she could around the house.
