My Aunt "La" was a very sweet woman who always had something nice to say to everybody and always had a smile on her face. Out of eight(8) siblings, she was the oldest girl. I can't help but reminisce on how God is a amazing being-directing our steps. I flew home to Southampton County, Virginia in May for a few weeks to visit my family. As soon as I got there, I was told that my Aunt "La" had been admitted to the hospital-Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Va.
When I walked in to visit my aunt, she smiled and told me how well I looked. My aunt always looked very nice and well kept. Hair freshly curled, pearly white teeth with the glitter from a gold tooth highlighted her smile. I told her how well her hair looked and she replied, " Child Nah, I got this mess curled last week. And we both laughed. My aunt never had children so we, nieces and nephews, inducted ourselves as her children. She always worked hard to survive for a living. One of her jobs was a Nanny for a Mortician, William Engram Sr's whose children were; William, Jr. and the Late Wanda Doreen Engram-Starks. I spent a lot of time with my aunt Laura and she gave me a lot of old pictures that I value to this day. A copy of her picture taken in 1953 is displayed on this page. Before I left to go back to Detroit, I promised her that I will keep in touch with her. She was discharged from the hospital in good health. But, two(2) days after I arrived back in Detroit, my mother called me and told me that my aunt had been admitted back in the hospital and had to undergo an emergency surgery. I prayed and prayed and kept in contact with my family for updates on my aunt. These were trying times for the entire family because they were not sure of the outcome of the surgery. She never recovered from the surgery. She died in a comatose state. I realized after praying that she was not suffering any longer. I often read Ec.. 9:5 "...dead are not conscious of anything...". So I must weep for myself since I'm left in this wicked system of things where Satan and imperfection can take a toll on all of us. At least my aunt will have a hope of resurrection as promised by God(Acts 24:15) Can't wait to see her again because there is so much that I have to tell her. Though I miss her, I know that I have to do my spiritual part to see her again. So, I petition all of you readers to, "PLEASE BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH THE TRUE WORD OF GOD AND OBEY HIM." You may have the opportunity to see your dead loved ones again. May God bless each and everyone of you.
