Carol was the eldest of two daughters born to Leon and Martha (Young) Ulmer. She was the wife of Donald E. Metzler, with whom she would have celebrated 42 years of marriage in December.

Carol worked at the Grit newspaper, assisted her husband with his business, and was a homemaker.

She attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the McEwensville Gardening Club. She was an avid gardener and landscaper, and loved baking and cooking.

A tragic highway accident claimed Carol's life as she accompanied her husband on a work-related trip.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons: Nevin (Renee) Metzler, formerly of Turbotville, and Nathan (Shannon) Metzler of Cincinnatus, NY; a daughter, Naomi (Louis) Palazzo of Hughesville; four grandchildren: Hunter, Ariahna, Daphne and Chloe Metzler; two brothers, Philip (Lois) Ulmer and Seth (Arlene) Ulmer, both of Linden; and a sister, Debra (Rev. David) Bixler of Loyalsock.

Carol was the beloved aunt of our son-in-law, Joel Dwight Bixler of Lenoir, North Carolina, and great-aunt to his and our daughter's three children.

She was a lovely lady who will be sorely missed. Her Christian faith was exemplary and we know she had trusted Christ implicitly for the salvation of her soul. Since we have His promise that He went to prepare a place for us, we know Carol is in His presence today.

And we rejoice!

Up to now we've been looking
Through a glass so dark and dim,
And only a few mysteries have we known;
But I sense now in my spirit
His returning is upon us,
And with a shout and God's trumpet,
We'll be gone.

And only the redeemed
Shall hear His voice on that day,
When He comes in clouds of glory
To catch us all away.
The graves will then burst open
And the dead in Christ will rise,
And we which are alive in Jesus
Will be changed in the twinkling of an eye.

"Only the Redeemed"
Words and music by Darrell Glen and Joe Hughes

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
