Peter Hamilton Hastings, M.D., of Goose Creek, SC, formerly of Pennsauken, NJ, entered into eternal rest September 25, from internal injuries received while competing in a local triathlon contest.

He was the son of Peter A. Hastings and Lois Kenney Williamson.

Dr. Hastings was a graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, IL, continuing his education at Bucknell University on a swimming scholarship where he was Captain of the Swim Team.

He attended medical school at the University of Illinois on a Senatorial Scholarship. His residency was in Pediatrics at MUSC and he was a partner at Palmetto Pediatrics. Dr. Hastings was also President of the Dorchester County Medical Society and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Dr. Hastings was the husband of Michele M. Hastings and surviving, in addition to her, are his mother and step-father: Lois K. Williamson and Shellie Williamson of Peoria, IL; his father and step-mother: Peter A. Hastings and Elizabeth B. Hastings of Landrum, SC; two precious sons: Christopher H. Hastings and Peter "Petey" M. Hastings; a beautiful daughter, Erin K. Hastings all of Goose Creek; two sisters: Heather A. Swanberg of New Lennox, IL and K. Paige Knight of Houston, TX.

From the Charleston Post and Courier:
Dr. Hastings, who was among the fastest swimmers and triathletes in Charleston despite weighing about 190 pounds at 5' 11", died from complications of a heatstroke suffered during the triathlon. The event featured a .9-mile ocean swim in relatively rough conditions, a 28-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run on a hazy, hot morning.

Dr. Edward West, a partner with Hastings at Palmetto Pediatrics in North Charleston, said those who worked with Dr. Hastings view his death as "a family loss" and that he was very dear to the staff at the practice.
