Katherine Elizabeth Doss was born on May 29th of 1920 to Vera Mae Crawford and Felix Martin Doss in Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas.

She was the eldest of four children.

Growing up, she attended school, helped out on the family farm and enjoyed spending quality time with her family.

One day, she had moved from Vernon to Amarillo, Texas. She had just met a new friend named Virgie (Find-A-Grave Memorial# 19270207) and as they were walking along the street, she laid eyes on Cheser Bowen Mead. Little did she know that Virgie was a friend of Cheser's and had been walking with him the day before when he had laid eyes on her and declared to Virgie that he was going to marry her. When Katherine turned to Virgie to inquire as to who that handsome gentleman across the street was and saying that she was going to marry him, Virgie turned to Katherine and told her "That's the same thing he said about you." and the rest is beloved history.

Virgie introduced them and the pair was married a short time later, Cheser refusing to pop the question until he had found work suitable for supporting a family.

They were married on June 25th of 1939 in Potter County, Texas by Emmett R. Foster. They were married at the Palisades. Their marriage certificate incorrectly spells Katherine's name with a "C", rather than a "K".

A short time later, the couple produced a single daughter, Marion Nancy Mead on April 2nd of 1940.

She was a loving mother and housewife who was always the first to lend a hand to others.

She volunteered with the Salvation Army and gave many years of service, acquiring a number of pins in the process.

Katherine was married to Cheser until his death in 1994 and never remarried. She never removed her wedding ring until just a few hours before her death, passing it on to one of her granddaughters.

She passed away on August 26th of 2006 at a hospice facility in Auburndale, Florida. She was cremated in Lakeland, where she was a resident for several years and her ashes remain with her family.

She passed away peacefully, at the age of eighty six years old in the dawning hours, having been called home by her Lord.

She lived as she died, a loving and loved woman.
