Charles E. Vondrachek, age 86, of 2506 37th Street, Two Rivers, currently a resident of North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, December 7, 2005, at North Ridge Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William G. O'Brien with burial to take place on Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Charles was born October 6, 1919 in Valley City, N.D., a son of the late Emil and Anna (Rosen) Vondrachek. He attended Catholic grade school and was a graduate of St. Catherine's Catholic High School in Valley City. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from Oct. 17, 1940, until his honorable discharge on Sept. 4, 1945. During his service time, he was awarded the following decorations: Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Battle Star, Purple Heart, European Theater Combat Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon and Distinguished Flying Medal of Great Britain. On January 24, 1945, he was married to Bette Fischer at Rapid City, S.D. Chuck was employed with Deja & Martin Furniture/Funeral Home for 43 years and purchased the furniture store in 1981 from Earl and Carol Martin. Chuck and his wife, Bette, operated the business, known as Von's Furniture, until retiring in 1987. He was active with the Boy Scout Troop where he served as a leader, he also loved to play cards with his card club, enjoyed fishing, and above all cherished the time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lona Mae, July 28, 1960, a brother WallaceV ondrachek and a sister, Irene Shimon.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic church after 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. There will be no visitation this evening.

Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels of Two Rivers is assisting the Vondrachek family with funeral arrangements.
