John James Svoboda Jr. entered the United States Army as a paratrooper at age 19 on February 16, 1950. He served for two years due to an injury following a parachute jump at Camp Campbell in Kentucky. He died at only 50 years of age due to mouth cancer.

John's bronzed oval photo and veteran medallion were placed on his crypt by his grandson, Michael Stanley Klimczak.
