Winnie Odell Rose was the first child born to James Bascom Rose Sr. and Flora Vianna Casteel Rose. She was born in the Temperance Oak area of Limestone County, Alabama. James and Flora moved to the Coxey area of Limestone County in 1913. There, Winnie developed some kind of fever, possibly polio, because it affected her legs. She died June 4th, 1913 a few days of being stricken. Her death certificate showed that she died at 10 in the morning after an illness of 36 hours. The cause of death was listed as osteomyilitis. She is buried close to her grandparents, S.A.B & Elmira Rose in the Shoemaker Cemetery of Limestone County, Alabama. She would have been my father's oldest sister.
