Born in Apatin, Hungary to Josef and Francesca Binder. She came over to America on the Carpathia on Sept. 11, 1911 with her mother while her father came over 1 year ahead to get settled. The Binder's resided in Milwaukee. Anna married Earl Krainik and raised 7 children Earl, Joanne, David, Ralph, Jean, James, and Janet.
My Grandma was quite the cook and very book-smart. If you see her photos, Grandma was also known for her hats. Feathers, sequins...the flashier, the better. Grandma was gentle but stern. She gave us grandchildren a firm "ta-ta" that stopped us in our tracks when we needed a little direction. She taught my mom how to make the traditonal family favorites such as pillows and the famous 7-layer cake or known as Dobash Torte. Then my mom, in turn, taught me to make Grandma Krainik's recipes.
