Michael was born May 25, 1970 to Kenneth W. (Wayne) and Mary Oravetz in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born with multiple birth defects he spent a large part of his childhood in hospitals undergoing facial and other reconstructive surgery. Growing up he had to overcome the taunting of young children when his "less than perfect" facial features seemed to make a good target. At the age of 16, when he had tests done prior to more surgery, the physicians determined that he had a fairly rare condition called MARFAN'S SYNDROME. His heart and connective tissues were involved. He was told that the life expectency of someone with Marfans would be about 30 years of age unless they were treated with medication. He immediately started the medication and with yearly tests of his heart and eyes, he had this condition under control. Michael had overcome these obstacles and as a devout Christian, he forgave the childhood taunts, he did not question "why me?" He attended Western Heights School system, graduating in 1988. He then attended The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond,Oklahoma, majoring in photography. He was a very happy person. Loved to laugh. He liked to do things for his family and his church. He loved taking and developing photos. He did photos for the church. He had a younger brother that he would have done anything for. Mike worked for Candid Color Systems of Oklahoma City.

In the early morning hours of September 14, 2000, as he lay asleep in his apartment, an unknown perpetrator set fire to his apartment complex. His apartment along with 31 other units burned to the ground. Michael was the only one to not survive. This was a random act of violence, possibly for the excitement of watching people in a frantic situation.

He was survived by his parents and one brother, Kevin Oravetz and aunts, uncles and cousins that he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roland and Mina Oravetz and Laymond and Flossie Campbell

Without knowing him, without caring who he was, someone took his life and never looked back.
He was a good man, he loved God and today he is in Heaven watching over the family he loved so much.

Cause of death - homicide by arson.
