Born to Joseph Conder and Lydia Barnes. Served in Company F of the 97th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. Married Sarah Jane Fulk in Indiana in 1867. They had at least three children who lived into adulthood: Joseph Franklin, John Lewis and Sarah Eliza (Sadie). Sarah Jane died shortly after her daughter's birth in 1876 and Adam moved to Missouri where his brother Solomon had moved after the Civil War. He left his daughter Sadie to be raised by relatives named Charles and Cindy Inman. In 1879, he married Cindy Inman's sister Minerva Holliday. Together, they had at least 8 children.
