Daughter of Cecilia Cavanaugh Downer & Simon Ezra Thomas Downer.
Born in Arizona. Raised in Nebraska & California.
Virginia worked for Solano Country and the Suisun School District for a while. She worked more than 25 years for the Government, at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. She was head of the Badge & Pass Office at the Main Gate.
Virginia was a 4H Community Leader and a member of the Rebekah's. She saw to it that Diedre was a member of the Rainbow Girls and I was in 4H. My mother attended every home basketball game I played and there were many. She was also a willing taxi to all of my events: Roller Skating, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, Swim team, Church choir, School choir, Band, the parades, demonstration day as well as local and state fairs. My mother worked full time even when she was a 'stay at home' Mom.
During my mother's eighth grade graduation ceremony they called the name Clara Downer. Not knowing who Clara was Virginia remained seated, until the principal pointed and motioned to her to come get her diploma. That was the day she found out her middle name was Clara.
Virginia was a graduate of Armijo High School in Fairfield and lived most of her adult life in Suisun City at 304 California Street, a home she and my father purchased from Anna Kyle.
