This is my husband's mother, my mother-in-law

Born in Mount Tabor, Montgomery County, Arkansas or near the long gone community of Lucky, Montgomery County, Arkansas, Kathryn DL Small was the daughter of Andrew Lafayette Small & Nancy Isobel Dillard. Her siblings included Flossie Viola Small, Jewel Cledythe Small Wright, Edythe Mary Small Reppo, Cleotis Small (who died at ten months of age), Adell Euwintha Small Smith, Leo Jesse Eugene Small & J.R.Small Hawkins. She married Ray Otis Long Jan 20, 1946.

"Dick" and Ray lived a number of years in Yuba City, California but most generally always flew back to Arkansas for the summer and/or Christmas. After adopting their only child, Christopher Lee Long in early 1964, her life was complete; or so she thought.

At the age of about 40 or so (around 1974), she accepted Jesus into her heart. She lived with that joy until her death. Another joyous moment came in 1995 in the form of a squalling granddaughter, Kirsten Cheyenne "KC" Long. And 13 years later...she still squalls as all teens do.

On Feb 4 2006, in my heart, I believe that her prayers were answered... as her one and only son married a girl that she would have picked out. In many ways I am like her.

Kathryn's nickname was Dick, and at various times in her life she would call herself other names that started with the letter "D" that was a part of "DL," which didn't really stand for anything at all.

Kathryn, as I called her, was a licensed cosmetologist (which I am as well) and also went to school for tailoring and dress design. Before marrying Ray Long, she worked in Hot Springs, Arkansas, giving manicures. One of her clients from her recollection, was Al Capone which was very possible since Hot Springs was the 'vacation' spot for all the gangsters/mobsters during that time.

Kathryn was loved by all, and loved all; loving her Lord most.

She smiles at the feet of Jesus today.
