J. W. Going
J. W. Going, aged 59, died suddenly at the home of Edgar Poe about 7:00 o'clock Friday night, Sept. 9. Physicians stated his death was due to heart failure.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church and interment was made in Masonic cemetery. Rev. O. A. Greenleaf conducted the funeral services. He was buried with Masonic honors.
Mr. Going had been a resident of Pocahontas practically all his life, coming here in his early youth. Since reaching manhood he has been engaged in business here. He was, at the time of his death, the proprietor of the J. W. Going Furniture Store. He never married.
He is survived by three nephews, Homer, Fred and Lambert Going, and three neices, Mrs. Ella Lane of Myrtle, Mo., and Mrs. Edna Amos and Mrs. Alyus Wisner of Pocahontas.
Second child born to Alonzo J and Lucy Ann Ratliff Going.
J W or Lon, as he was known by his family and friends, was a man of all trades.
1. He served many times on the Randolph County Grand Jury as well as the Petit Jury;
2. He was appointed many times to represent the Democratic Party of Randolph County at the State Conventions held in Little Rock;
3. He was elected as the Chairman and Secretary-Treasurer at the formation meeting of the Farm Loan Association of Randolph County;
4. John Walter Alonzo Going was elected Court Clerk of the Chancery Court for Randolph County in 1906.
5. He was always active in raising money for the County and the War
6. J W was on the board of directors for the Pocahontas State Bank for many years.
7. He owned and operated the grist mill in Pocahontas and made county news when he installed a 25-hp International
gasoline engine with which to operate his grist mill.

Going has had a force of carpenters at work during the last week building elevators for his grist mill at this place. He has raised the main part of the mill building one story higher in order to have plenty of room for the additional machinery. Mr. Going is one of our most progressive citizens and nothing but the best is satisfactory with him."
8. He was not only in the milling business he also raised and sold Thoroughbred Duroc Jersey Hogs, along with cattle.
9. He owned large amounts of property in Pocahontas and farmland throughout the county which he rented and made real estate deals frequently.
Lon was sick through his manhood with measles, typhoid fever and heart problems. As a young man he was fancied by all the young women, but he never married. Because of all his sicknesses I believe Lon resigned himself to just being a good businessman.
This is just some of the events in Lon's life. There are many more and with each one he seemed to be able to come out on top with his money making skills.
