Henry Stephen Riley was born April 8, 1886 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, one of six children of George M. D. Riley and Eliza Englert Miller Riley and the twin of William Duncan Riley, who died as a child. He had two older half-sisters. "Harry" had blue eyes and brown hair and was of medium build. From at least 1910 till at least 1918, he was a machinist with the Central of Georgia Railroad. Harry was the second husband of Nettie Donnie King Neely Riley and had two step-sons, Joe and Robbie Neely. Harry worked for the water works in Savannah. He loved to attend Savannah minor-league baseball at Grayson Stadium and root for the home team. His three step-grandchildren called him "Grandpop." He died at age 69 on September 29, 1955 in Savannah. (His twin "Willie" died at age 5.) Harry is buried in the Riley family plot in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah. (His wife Nettie is buried in the Neely family plot in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.). Harry's ancestry was German and Irish.
