William R. Waggoner, son of Alfred and Matilda Waggoner, was born near Patricksburg, Ind. on Nov. 9th 1860. He departed this life on July 1st 1934, aged 73 yr., 7 mo, and 21 days. He was married to Elmira Fulk on Dec. 24th 1885 and to this union was born six children, those surviving him are his wife Elmira, four daughters Stella Griffith of Coal City, Florence Duncan, Ruth Duncan, Hazel Waggoner of Jasonville, one son Ernest C. Waggoner of Elgin, Ill. and one son dying at birth, one brother Charles of Lovington, Ill., ten grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of admiring friends and neighbors. Mr. Waggoner was baptized into the Christian faith of Bethsaida Church on Jan. 22, 1891. He became a steadfast worker in and remained loyal to its teachings through out the remainder of his life, though not able to attend for the past few years because of ill health. He served as deacon of the church some 34 years and as treasurer for nearly as long. No one could have a keener interest in the welfare of the church than Mr. Waggoner, and no one could be a more willing worker for its maintenance than he. Today as relatives and friends review in their minds the beautiful life of the departed, they cannot fail to remember the peace and happiness promised the faithful and the honest characters such as he. (from a handwritten obituary) Mr. Waggoner died at the home of his daughter in Jasonville, where the family went to live after their home near Coal City burned.
