Agnes lived to be 100 years old! From 1889 to 1989 she lived in and around Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana. Her parents lived to be 99 and 91, and three siblings lived to be 100 and older.

Agnes was one of eleven children born to Thomas and Anna (Horoho) Ryan. She was born August 22, 1889 in Center township in Howard County, Indiana and baptised at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kokomo. She married Emil Beaver in 1916 and they were blessed with five sons and a daughter. She outlived her husband and their sons William and Edwin.

Agnes shared memories of the time that she was hurt at home. About 1942, she received an electrical shock from taking hold of a floor lamp and turning on the vacuum cleaner. Daughter Elizabeth elaborated that she was walking down toward home from the old YMCA and heard her mother scream. She knew something was very wrong and ran as fast as she could toward the house. Dad was in his shop behind the home and also rushed in, ahead of Elizabeth. He knew what to do and turned off the wall switch, stopping the current. From that day on, Agnes was always somewhat afraid of any kind of lamp or appliance.

Everyone in the family has memories of Great Grandma Beaver at her home at 602 East Sycamore. The home was pretty much how it was when she moved in after her 1916 marriage. The kitchen had the three foot wide shallow sink, the kitchen queen, the table; and there were no built-in cupboards or counters. It was original vintage and Grandma was content with it. She always had a rain barrel collecting water - she told her grandson's wife that she liked to wash her hair in rain water. She talked of leaving the state on a trip once and hurting herself. She endured the pain and came home to be treated. Home was important to her. She lived in her and Emil's home for 73 years!

Grandson John T. "Ted" Beaver made a big fuss about getting his infant daughter ready to be presented to his grandmother. He beamed when she announced his daughter a nice Beaver baby. He always laughed about the fact that it took him a few days once to remember what Grandma's first name was. It was Grandma, nothing else. After 'Ted' died in an accident, his widow visited with Agnes at least four times a week for over a year. When she went into labor with Ted's son, Agnes went to St. Joseph's Hospital with Margie and talked to one of the nurses (Helen - a Horoho relative) to take care of "my Teddy's wife." The little boy was named Ryan Beaver for Agnes (Ryan) Beaver. Before his fatal accident, John (Ted) had said he wanted to honor his grandma. In 1977 when they left Indiana, photos were taken of Agnes and her great grandson.

On her 90th birthday, great grandson Michael A. Beaver II, was born to Dianne and Mike Beaver of Sharpsville. An official portrait of Agnes and this special great grandson was taken.

Uncle Ed lived with Grandma for quite a few years until he passed away. They were quite the team - Ed and his mother would sometimes have some very healthy and loud arguments - both were pretty strong- willed! Agnes may have sometimes visually come across as rather frail, but she could take on Uncle Ed when he did something that made her unhappy. Once when John (Ted) and Margie came to visit, Ed had just burned a drawer of old newspaper clippings that his mom had collected over the decades. She was livid and still screaming at Uncle Ed as the young couple excused themselves. Ed and Grandma did enjoy company, too, and always welcomed the family into the home.

Her son John remembers that his father called their mother "Peg". The song "Peg of my heart" was popular at the time they got together.

Agnes died shortly after her 100th birthday. She was buried next to her husband Emil.
