Cora Olive McGlaun was born on 29 November 1888 in San Antonio, Texas, to James Edmund McGlaun and Laura Emma Thweatt. Her father was a farmer in Lavaca County, Texas, but the Storm of 1900 forced him to seek employment in the boomtown Guffey, Texas (later known as Spindletop). In November of 1903, after harvesting their crops, the family left Lavaca County in four wagons during a terrible rainy season. The flood-choked streams and muddy roads presented quite a problem in their travel. A calamity occurred crossing the Trinity River at Liberty when the bridge was swept away by the flood, carrying 15-year-old Olive, the wagon she was driving, and the team downstream. Olive was saved and the horses swam ashore, but it took the family two months to cover the 195 miles from Lavaca County to Liberty. Olive attended Beaumont High School with her sisters. The girls met their husbands at Guffey where the family ran a boarding house; the teenage daughters assisted their mom in the preparation and serving of meals when they were not attending school. Olive married Sylvestor Gregg "George" Nesbitt in the Methodist Church at Guffey where the McGlaun family had their membership on 15 February 1908. They lived in Beaumont, Texas, and had one daughter, Lillian Nesbitt. Olive McGlaun Nesbitt died, 18 August 1967, aged 78, in Austin, Texas, and was buried at Forest Oaks Cemetery.
