My great-great-grandfather William Gerard, a widower, migrated from England to Australia with his son William Henry and daughters, Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Sarah and Anne.

William Henry (Snr) married Mary Jane Collier and together they had William Henry (Jnr); Annie, Charles Alexander, Sarah, Alfred Collier, George Arthur, Mabel Marion and Evaline Elizabeth.

William Henry (Jnr) married Elizabeth Dora Marshall on 27 February 1892 at Marrickville, Sydney, New South Wales. Bill and Beth Gerard had 9 children, 6 of whom were born in New South Wales, before the family moved to Queensland where the other 3 children were born.
Nellie Jane(1893-1973);
William Marshall(1895-1952);
Arthur Charles Marshall(1898-1917);
Mary Francis(1900-1988);
Doris Elizabeth(1902-1977);
Richard Marshall(1906-1907);
Bessie Alice Winifred(1909-1996);
Gladys Mavis(1911-1994);
Florence Mildred Lilian(1914-1993)

Bill Gerard was a honest, loving, hard working man who was well known as a bushman, who would disappear or go walkabout for periods of time, but spent more time at home after the birth of the youngest child, when he and Beth ran a grocery store at Ambrose, Queensland, Australia.

********Bill Gerard was the first of my maternal ancestors to be born in Australia. He left behind a dynasty of very proud and patriotic Australians, many of whom have served our country in times of conflict and peace.

He spent 46 years of his life in New South Wales and 39 years in Queensland.

Grand-dad Gerard passed away at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital at Rockhampton, aged 85 years.

********It is well known within the family, and supposedly well documented,with the documentation being held by William Marshall Gerard, that this Gerard Family was descended from Titled French Aristocracy. The title came down to Bill Gerard, who refused it, as did his eldest son William Marshall Gerard, after which the title supposedly died out.********
