Frederick Robert Alden was born in Hop Bottom,Pennsylvania on 11 Apr 1921. He was the son of William Robert Alden and Hazel Sheets. From 11 months of age, he was raised by his maternal grandmother, Margaret Sheets Rutherford and his step-grandfather, Wilbur Grant. His father, William, is said to have contracted tuberculosis and Frederick would be endangered by remaining in close contact with him. Margaret, Wilbur and Frederick lived on the Grant farm in Raymondville, N.Y. He remained with them until the age of 16 at which point he returned to his parents in the Massena, Madrid, Northern New York area. The family moved to Syracuse, N.Y. in 1935-1936. Fred met Marian Ethel Trouskie in 1943 and they married on his 24th birthday, 11 Apr 1945. Their children, Janet Marian Alden born 1951, Robert John Alden born 1953 and Richard James Alden born 1956, were all born while the family lived at their home on Pleasant Valley Road in Marcellus, N.Y. In 1957, the family moved to 708 West Brighton Avenue in Syracuse, N.Y. Frederick worked at Carrier Air Conditioning Company in Syracuse for 30 years, from 1944 until his death in 1974. He was a gifted draftsman and rose to the position of Drafting Supervisor. For many years at Carrier, he worked on the air conditioning systems used in the NASA space program.

Frederick "Fred" was a kind, loving and devoted husband and father who always went the extra mile for his family and friends. He was an intelligent, soft-spoken, and reserved man who loved nature, animals, and going camping. His other passions were drawing, calligraphy and automobiles. He took his family on vacations every year and always made sure to fit in a visit to friends in Norwood, N.Y. at least once a year as well. "Kring Point State Park" was the families 1-2 week getaway every year during the 1960's and so many great memories were made there with the Alden's extended family.

Fred passed away on April 6, 1974 after suffering a stroke just a few days earlier. It broke the family's heart to lose him and he is greatly missed.
