Jarrett Ray Branscum, 63, of Tulsa, passed from this life at his home in Tulsa on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, after a brief battle of lung cancer.

J.R. was born in Alco, Arkansas on September 5, 1945, one of 10 children born to William Clifton "W.C." Branscum and Myrtis Irene Morrison Branscum.

J.R. went to Timbo School and Leslie School, graduating in 1964. Jimmy Driftwood was one of his school teachers at Timbo. He went to the Technical School in Hot Springs, AR before being drafted into the army.

Jarrett served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Arkansas.

He worked for the Tulsa Public School System for twenty-seven years, working as a mail truck driver and a carpenter and he carried the nickname of "TreeTop". He was known by everyone as a "workaholic" so it was a natural for him to find another job when he retired from the school system. He found his next career as a semi truck driver and even attended truck driving school with his younger son. They enjoyed driving and they soon convinced older brother to go to truck driving school also and he too became a driver.

He drove for USXPress, USA Truck, Schneider, Silica Transport (STI), Rocor and Miller Truck Lines. He traveled the United States and Canada some times accompanied by his wife and little dog, Buddy.

J.R. married in Oxley, Arkansas on November 25, 1969 and they made their home in the Tulsa/Sand Springs Line area.

Survivors include his wife, two sons and wife, two grandsons, one granddaughter, a brother, Roger (Leeann), seven sisters, Nancy (Bill), Frances (Ken), Judy, Janice, Betty, Kathy (Larry), and Linda. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Norris Broad, his Mother-in-law Betty Fry, and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Myrtis Irene (Morrison) Branscum, a sister, Wilma Broad, and his father-in-law, Leonard Fry, a brother-in-law, David Fry, one half-brother, Vester Branscum, three half-sisters, Seawilla Branscum Vickers, Syble Gadberry Christenot, and Voida Hawthorne Gresham.

Also survived by his two doggie boys, Buddy and Puddles. JR loved taking those two doggie boys on a walk every day until he got sick last year.

Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2009 at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Woodland Memorial Park, 1200 N Cleveland, Sand Springs, OK, under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service. Tom Wilson and his wife Margie will be officiating at the services.
