Marine Lance Cpl Poole was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He was killed when he stepped on an IED - an improvised explosive device. Poole was conducting counter-insurgency operations with the Afghan National Security Forces. At the age of 4, Timothy met a man who would change his life forever. His father had taken him to a "Toys for Tots" event and while there, Timothy walked up to a Marine standing at attention. This solemn man broke attention, picked up the small boy and whispered in his ear. No one knows what was spoken but that night, as his father was putting him to bed, little Bubba told his father that he was going to grow up to be a Marine. In 2005, the family moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky where Timothy attended Warren East High School and graduated in 2007. True to his word, he joined the Marines shortly after graduation. He saw lots of action in 2 ½ years – two deployments to Iraq and the last to Afghanistan in November and is the recipient of a Combat Action Ribbon and a Purple Heart. Timothy was a quiet, polite young man who skateboarded. The last time he came home, he told his dad to remember that if he died, he died doing what he wanted to do; serving his country – a country he loved.
