Lillie Ann Smith was born in Haralson County, Georgia on October 8, 1909 to Jacob Breckinridge Smith and Eliza Ellen Crawford Smith. She was the next to the youngest child of 10 siblings and half-siblings. As a child, she was expected to work for the good of the family, and she often worked in the family butcher shop or plowing and working in the garden.

On March 19, 1932, she married Otis Hugh Bolden in Haralson County, Georgia. They lived in Buchanan, Georgia, and they had seven children - five of whom grew to adulthood. Daughter Shirley lived about two weeks and died in 1935. Daughter Sarah died in 1940 as a result of burns from a fireplace fire at the age of six. Otis died in 1964 when a tar kiln exploded while he was tarring a roof.

She worked for Arrow Shirt Company, and she retired from the company after approximately 28 years. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Buchanan, Georgia.

I used to visit with Aunt Lillie with my grandmother Irene Munroe and/or my mother. I was fascinated by her. She was a very tall, sturdy woman whose eyes were often filled with mischief. You would never guess from looking at her that she could do the most amazing needlework or make beautiful jewelry from tiny little beads. She was a loud speaker with a big booming laugh who was never afraid to speak her mind to anyone at any time.

Lillie, her sister Ruby Davis, and her sister Irene Munroe were together as residents of Haralson County Nursing Home in Bremen, Georgia for the final years of their lives. Lillie died on January 23, 1993, and she is buried in Buchanan City Cemetery with several of her family members.
