Phillip Hess, well known resident of Lewistown and community and once a resident of Clark county, died at his hom in Lewistown Tuesday Morning at 7:30 o'clock after an illness dating from Sunday night. Mr. Hess was stricken with blindness several months ago, but was tenderly cared for by his daughter, Miss Uva, who made her home with him, and by his other children, Prof. Eugene Hess superintendent of schools at Edina, and another daughter, Miss Edna Hess, who is a teacher in the Quincy schools. Mr. Hess seemed to be in his usual health all day Sunday but during the night he called to his daughter, Miss Uva, and she went to him at once and he immediately lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never recovered and died as stated above. While he had not been in robust health for several years he was always able to work about his place and visit with his friends until he was stricken with blindness some months agao. But even this did not keep him from attending religious worship at the Methodist church of which he had been a life time member. He was a very enthusiastic christian and devoted much of his time to the church, being one of the best posted men on biblical teachings in this community. Mr. Hess moved to Lewistown about eight years ago from his farm south of town and took up his residence with his daughter, Miss Uva, who is a teacher in the public schools. His wife died June 29, 1920, and he came here immediately after that and purchased the home where the family now resides.
