US Congressman. He attended the Universities of Arkansas and Mississippi, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1894 and commenced to practice law in Warren, Arkansas. He was a member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives in 1895, served in the Arkansas State Senate, (1905-09) and a member of the board of trustees of the University of Arkansas, (1907-11). In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1921. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 71.
