Emma and Nathan moved to Oswego, Labette Co., Kansas in 1872 , where five of their six children were born. Their children were Lula Mae, Walter Charles, Aimata Cora, Alice Pauline, and Nathan Maxson. Arthur William died at 8 months in 1872. In 1884 they divorced in the Idaho Territory.
Emma married William St. Clair Long December 22, 1885, in Lewston, Nez Perce County, Idaho Territory. Mr. Long died within a few years of their marriage and Emma changed her name back to Purviance and moved back to Leavenworth, Kansas.
Emma then moved to Los Angeles County, California about 1910 to live near her two oldest daughters. She died at home at 322 North Beaudry Avenue, Los Angeles, California of Apoplexy, at the age of 66 yrs., 8 mos., and 24 days.
