Born in Montgomery, Alabama to William & Sue (Borders) Jones he was most proud of his military service in the US Navy during World War II as a signalman. Serving from 1939 to 1946, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked, but was out on maneuvers. Serving on board the USS Maury (DD-401) a destroyer assigned to the USS Enterprise, he saw action in the Pacific, including the Battle of Midway, Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands. Was discharged in February 1946 at the end of the war and received the Asiatic Pacific (7 Stars), American Area, Victory, Good Conduct Medal, Points and a Presidential Unit Citation/ Blue Star enamel, medals.
After the War, he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad where he was a Terminal Freight Agent for 32 years.
After his retirement, he moved to Middletown, CA & then Cobb, CA where he was active in several fraternal organizations, including the Shriners.
In his spare time he was an avid golfer and had at least one trophy for a "Hole in One." He also enjoyed gardening, had several gardens and grew all his own vegetables.
After the War, he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad where he was a Terminal Freight Agent for 32 years.
After his retirement, he moved to Middletown, CA & then Cobb, CA where he was active in several fraternal organizations, including the Shriners.
