Albert Zessin, First Born Son of Ferdinand and Henrietta (Henrich) Zessin.

Albert Zessin was born September 21, 1849, in the province of Pommern,
Lupow, Germany. (which is now Poland) At age of 20, he migrated to the United States with his parents. Soon after they settled in the Madison area. He went to work for Krug's Brewery in Omaha, Nebraska. While there, he married Augusta Buettner. They moved to Madison in 1885 and built their home, finished in 1887. (The home has alway been occupied by a Zessin) He ran a tavern for a short time. In 1894 he built a brick building where he operated a clothing store. He ran the store with the help of his son, Fred and a Mr. Buettner.
He sold the store in 1920. His brothers and sisters depended on his advice and judgment regarding him as their legal consultant.
Augusta died in Florida on February 5, 1914. After her death, Albert and his daughter, Emma, spent many winters in Florida. He died in Madison on October 11, 1930. Both are buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Madison, Nebraska.

When Albert was working at Krug's Brewery in Omaha, he injure his back. The Owner, Frederick Krug of Krug's told Albert he should go home to Madison and open a Tavern, which he did with his Brother's Carl and Henry Zessin.
One night a customer who had to much to drink wrecked his wagon on the way home and was killed. His family sued Albert and his Brother's saying that they was partly responsible for the accident.
A jury found for the family and Albert pay the judgement and closed the Tavern and open a Clothing Store. His Brother Carl open a Tavern in Newman Grove and it was always said no one ever left his place drunk.

MADISON-Albert Zessin, pioneer of Madison county died Oct. 11. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the residence and at 2:30 at the Emanuel Lutheran church, of which he was a member. He was born in Germany in 1849, came to America and settled on a homestead in this county in 1870. He was married to Augusta Buettner at Norfolk in 1874. Fred G. and Edward A., sons, and Emma, a daughter, four brothers, Carl, Spokane; Ferdinand, Nebraska City; Fred, Devil's Lake, N.D., and Henry Emerick, and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Markley and Mrs. Elizabeth Markley, Fort Morgan, Colo., survive. Mr. Zessin had served for many years as a member of the public library board. His name is intimately connected with the early history of the county.
