June Bernice Hanes of Springfield, Oregon died March 15, 1999 after battling breast cancer for 3 years. She was 68. She was born June 16, 1930 in Blachly, Oregon to Ervin and Clara (Petersdorf) Wolfe. She married Aubrey Webb Hanes in Eugene, Oregon on February 3, 1951.

She served 4 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve with the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service. She moved to Eugene in 1949 and to Springfield in 1951.

She was a homemaker and was employed for two seasons at the Cannery in Eugene. She was also a good seamstress (though she wasnt too fond of it) and made dresses for herself and her daughters and clothes for their dolls. She would always hem work smocks, pants, or sew buttons whenever a loved one needed help.

She was a wonderful cook and labored over big meals to serve her family and visitors. She also cared for her ailing mother in law in the early 1980's; fixing her meals and helping her to bathe and dress.

Aubrey always lovingly called her "Boss". She'd say "I'm not the boss!", but she was.

June battled a chronic bone infection, Osteomyelitis, for nearly 60 years and took antibiotics daily. She walked with a noticable limp when not wearing her lifted shoe. Having this disability gave her a tender heart for other's pain and suffering, and a deep need to love and care for her family.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her 3 granchildren; Joel, Stephie, and Mitchell. They adored her. She was also an avid gardener who had beautiful flowers and a vegetable garden every summer.

She had a wicked funny sense of humor that only immediate family knew about. She liked to act silly in the kitchen, poking a little fun at others, doing silly dances and walks. She LOVED to laugh, and had a deep infectious one when she got really tickled.

She was passionate about bird watching, reading, listening to country music, dancing (at home with her daughter in the kitchen in later years whenever a fun song came on), and helping friends, neighbors, and church members. She was a member of Northwood Christian Church.

Husband Aubrey died in 2008. Survivors include sister Nellie Elam of Pinehurst,ID; three daughters, Nancy Hanes of Pleasant Hill, Sherry Smith and husband Stephen of Creswell, and Chrissy Hanes McCallum of Eugene; 3 grandchildren, Joel Smith, Stephanie Conner Francis, and Mitchell McCallum; one great grandchild, Ethan Conner, born 2007; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was one of a kind. There will never be another June B!!

P.S.- June loved Cardinals! Let's see how many different Cardinal scrapbook messages we can collect for her! Thanks for the love!
