Harry Rock was born in the Armourdale district of Kansas City, Kansas, sixth child and third son of John A. Rock and Susan Campbell. The first of his family to attend college, he earned his M.D. in psychiatry in 1935. He served as an major during WW2, was wounded and was captured behind enemy lines and held as a prisoner of war in Europe. He appeared on the roster of American POW's held at OFLAG XIII-B, Hammelburg, Bavaria, Germany. He received a promotion to Lt. Colonel before his discharge. He was the first member of his family to gain a postgraduate degree, and earned the highest military rank known in his family.

He spent most of his professional career in Chillicothe, Ohio, and never married. He died in 1981 in Florida, and was brought home for burial.

      Dr. Harry Rock

  Dr. Harry A. Rock, 74, Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, a former physician and a lieutenant colonel in the Army during World War II, died Monday at a hospital in Melbourne.
  After graduating from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Rock was a physician at the Veterans Hospital in Chillicothe, Ohio, 22 years before he retired in 1965.
  During World War II, Dr. Rock served in the 101st Airborne Division and was awarded five Bronze Star Medals and a Purple Heart. He also was a prisoner of war in Germany.
  He was a Methodist.
  Mr. Rock was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and had lived in this area 35 years before moving to Chillicothe, where he lived until moving to Melbourne.
  He leaves three brothers, Frank Rock and Joseph Rock of Kansas City, Kansas, and Charles Rock, Panama City, Fla., and a sister, Mrs. Daisy Meador, Kansas City, Kansas.
  Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Fulton-Nickel Chapel.
