Grandma Mary Ann was reared in Bethel Baptist Church, Jackson, MO where her grandfather Sheppard was an ordained deacon.
It most likely that Grandma Mary Ann was attending her older sister's wedding in Scott Co., IL when she met the young widower, William Pittman, and later married him on July 8, 1841.
She bore him ten children and they later adopted another son. At the time of her death, they had celebrated more than 61 years together.
Grandma lived only 76 years, 9 months, 15 days before the Lord called to her, and she answered; Grandpa joining her just eleven months later -- to be together forevermore.
The stone in the center is the original one; the two on either side are newer ones placed in love by an adoring family.
