Virgil received a BA in Music from Kent State in Ohio and a Masters in Music at North Texas State University. He owned The Watkins Music Store in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. He was married 3 times and fathered 4 children. Andy, his child from his 3rd marriage was his only son. Music was Virgil's life. He could play any musical instrument he picked up. He had had cancer in one eye, having to have it removed kept him from Military Service.
