Leland R. McGray, 75
NEWPORT - Leland R. McGray, 75, of Newport, passed away at his home Friday, May 15, 2009, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Bethlehem, N.H. Aug. 23, 1933, the son of Russell and Dorothy (Cummings) McGray.
Lee married Dorothy (Drew) McGray, Oct. 4, 1952. She predeceased him in 1984. Lee later married Geraldine M (McGowan) Roy Feb. 14. 1985.
Lee owned and operated McGray & Nichols Construction for 37 years, until he retired in 1986. He served as Trustee for Sugar River Bank where he served for 23 years as chairman from 1993 to 1995. He served as a member of the National Homebuilders Association on the committee for the development of housing for the elderly at Maple Manor. Lee served as chairman of the Newport School Board, as a member of the Richards Library board and supported the summer reading program.
Surviving family members include his wife, Geraldine McGray of Newport; daughters, Karen Tomecek and husband Michael of Leander, Texas, Sandra Smith and husband John of Newport, Jolene Tenney and husband William of Claremont; step-sons Richard Roy and wife Shirley of Springfield, Vt., James and wife Jodi of Claremont; two brothers Robert McGray of Newport and John McGray Sr. of Laconia; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 20 at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, N.H.
Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery on Route 11 in Newport. Pastor Donna Leslie of the Croydon Congregational Church will be officiating.
Relatives and friends may call on the family from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 19 at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home.
