John Edwin Johnson was born in Findlay, Ohio, July 29, 1951 to Gloria Anna (Connor) Johnson and Herbert Smith Johnson,Sr. He attended all of the Hancock County Schools and excelled in his academics, even earning a letter sweater in high school for his academics. My mother always used to say, "His mind is a gift from God."

John dated Sandy Brink all throughout high school and they married July 29, 1972, on John's 21st birthday. They later divorced. Ultimately, John's true love and soul mate was Carla Lynn Gorney. John loved her deeply up until his death.

John was a very loving, kind, and soft-spoken man, who loved his family very much. His great passion was music and his tastes in music were wide in range.

When I think of John, I think of sunshine. His golden hair, blue eyes, and warm smile were enough to brighten anyone's day.

My brother was my hero, and I was very blessed to have him in my life!

Below is a poem written for my brother John by my mother, dated January 26, 1987, 11 days after his death.

When God gave my son John to me, he made him Oh! so perfectly.
His ready smile, his heart so warm, no matter the day, the sun always shone.
His brilliant mind, a gift from God, if not for him, the world seemed so hard.
I love him so, and miss his charm, the hugs I got, the "I Love You Mom".
The long lonely days seem never to end, I can hardly wait to be with him again.
The tears forever seem to flow, Oh! my Boy, I loved you so.
He is in my heart and soul forever, he was my strenth, my joy, my happiness, without you John, there is only sadness.
Lord, hold him in your loving arms, and please give him a hug and kiss from his loving Mom.
