I was a young child when Uncle Emery passed on but he did leave a wonderful impression on me. He was born in the year 1896. At that time, President-elect William McKinley was about to take office in January of the following year. As such, my Republican great grandparents gave middle names to both of their two sons after the current presidents in office. Uncle Emery was named after William McKinley and my grandfather (Ira) was named after Teddy Roosevelt.
My uncle was called up in World War I and served in the US Army during that dreadful time in world history. He married Elizabeth Henry in his youth and they remained together until their deaths. They had no children, except for a cute little Boston Terrier named "Jiggs", which I remember very well. Emery also was a musician and played in several of the local bands in his hometown of Tracy, Ohio. Perhaps, this is where I have acquired my musical talents? After the war he worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad for many years and made his home in Toledo, Ohio. He represented a strong mentor for my father and he was hit pretty hard by his death. So, I am writing this short biography for you, Uncle Emery, just to let you know that you are still missed by all of us after all these years.
