Stanley was the 3rd of 4 children born to Walter and Ethel Johnson, and the only one to live past infancy. As a child he and his parents lived in poverty, in a small one-bedroom apratment that relied on the kitchen stove as the only source of heat. Stanley was given the bedroom and his parents slept in the small living room. This was something he was very ashamed of, and never revealed it to anybody until he was past the age of 90.
He was raised on the north side of Chicago, attending Hibbert School and graduated in 1927. He went to work for the Terminal Theater in Chicago, and then transferred to several other B&K theaters, which is how he met his future wife, Marjorie Blackburn. They married in 1934 and had two childrren, Barbara and Bonnie.
Stanley eventually became a clothing salesman for the Williamson-Dickie Mfg Company and the family settled in Park Ridge, Illinois for many years, until the youngest daughter graduated from high school. They moved locally a few times and then eventually retired to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, living there until wife Marjorie was diagnosed with Alzeheimers Disease. They then came back to Illinois, to the NW corner of the state to be close to family. Stanley was the primary caretaker for his wife, having some home-healthcare assistance in her final days. He lovingly cared for her, even after she was placed in a nursing home, visiting twice daily.
He drove a car up to the age of 93, until he was also in the nursing home. He died of a fall that resulted in a broken hip, just 6 weeks shy of his 95th birthday. He and Marjorie were both cremated, and buried in a joint memorial ceremony on his 95th birthday.∼He was born in Chicago, Ill., son of Walter and Ethel (Anderson) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Chicago Championship basketball team in 1927, playing for Hibbert High School. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and while living in Arkansas became a follower of the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball and football teams.
In the early days of his career, he was a film salesman for Warner Brothers. He later went to work in the men's clothing industry, representing the Williamson-Dickie Company, Game and Lake Sportswear, and several other companies.
Survivors include two daughters, nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.
